Hey Democrats…Your Celebrity Endorsements are Stupid and Counterproductive

Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman

For the last couple decades the prevailing view of the two political parties generally depends on who you ask, but if you ask those who are not a fan of the Democratic party, their description of the party would likely revolve around it being a party of the coastal elites and of Hollywood (or Hollyweird, as some are inclined to call it). And yet every election cycle like clockwork, Democrats seem to be overjoyed, very literally starstruck, at the level of intervention into their elections from someone they are used to seeing on stage and screen.

It’s as if they take that negative perception and wrap it around themselves like a shawl, something they are more than happy to show off when outside of their bubble, when in reality the best reaction they can reasonably hope for from those outside their bubble is apathy (and that’s being charitable).

Let’s consider the 2024 election. Remember how Taylor Swift was supposed to be a gamechanger when it came to registering and energizing the youth vote after her endorsement of Harris/Walz and playing off of the “childless cat lady” meme? Ohhh yes, people inside the bubble absolutely loved it. No one else cared, and the election results reflected that.

George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Cardi B, she of “W.A.P.” fame (look it up if you don’t know what that means, this is a family blog), were megadonors this year. Various Hollywood producers seemed like they thought they were in a position to play queenmaker this election. Alyssa Milano and Rosie O’Donnell are known to donate extensively and make their voices heard. Democrats just eat up the opportunity to be in the orbit of D-list excellence. But for everyone else the delusional self-importance just jumps off of the screen.

And then there’s Scottsdale. Pamela Carter was voted into the Arizona House of Representatives this year; while the last name is a common one her sister is not. Pamela’s sister is Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman. And Lynda decided that she must help the state she doesn’t live in reject the Republican politics of her sister by showing up to help fundraise for Carter’s opponents, Karen Gresham and Kelli Butler.

When one looks at the statements of Pamela and Lynda, the contrast couldn’t be starker and the problem more obvious. While Pamela comes off as agreeable, acknowledging that they have disagreements but that she still loves her sister, Lynda comes off as bitter and self-important, more swayed by the D or R by the name than by personal relationships. And the results spoke for themselves: Democrats lost both of these seats despite raising a metric ton of money.

When will Democrats learn that these celebrity endorsements only reinforce the negative stereotypes of you? That literally no one is swayed by these except people in your bubble, and that they are often a turn-off for everyday voters, an example of a party that is so incredibly far detached from the needs of the working class? People are struggling to put food on the table and you are fanboying and fangirling over Taylor Swift and Wonder Woman? Do you not understand how stupid that looks?

Democrats need to get a damn clue about a LOT of things going forward, but this is the lowest hanging fruit. The more you remain the party of Hollywood, the more bad election nights you’re going to have.
