Guest Editorial: Results – Old Town Scottdale

By Councilwoman Jan Dubauskas

Your Old Town Scottsdale is a beautiful and uniquely charming area that represents Scottsdale’s western heritage, while also welcoming locals and visitors to enjoy our modern amenities. Last week’s Western Week showed that Old Town is an important part of our past and our future. Unfortunately, it has languished too long without the attention of the city or Council to drive basic upgrades and improvements.

We are working to put a shine back on Old Town Scottsdale and raise the standard to make Old Town a welcoming and beautiful place to visit that truly reflects Scottsdale’s standards. Our City Manager, Greg Caton, lives in Old Town – he knows first-hand that Old Town is a very special place – and that it can be in better condition. Together, we put $47M toward significant improvements in Old Town! The work has begun and we’re so excited to share some of it with you!

You can watch the video here where I outline many of the projects we’re working on in Old Town Scottsdale, such as:

  • Streetscape beautification
  • Wayfinding (better signage)
  • Pavement improvements to roads & alleys
  • Two parking garages
  • Utility box art installation
  • Old Town Coordinator (a new position that focuses directly on Old Town)

At our next Council meeting on February 10th, we will be discussing the Tourism Plan and how we can incorporate Old Town more to leverage this incredible asset, as well as the noise ordinance that currently does not cover the Old Town area.

At the last Council meeting, we voted 6-1 to provide an additional $90k funding to the Museum of the West for its exciting expansion and launch of the incredible Eddie Basha collection this spring. Learn more about the expansion here.

We are very proud of our nationally-recognized culinary community in Old Town Scottsdale. Here is a wonderful testament to our amazing food scene:Old Town’s Cafe Monarch was recently named by Yelp as the #1 Most Romantic Restaurant in the United States!!! (Article)
