“I am deeply saddened by the passing of former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, not only for the loss of this great man, but for what his passing represents to all Arizonans.
Senator Kyl was a statesman in every sense of the word. He was staunch in his beliefs, yet always sought compromise. Senator Kyl was quick to teach and eager to learn. He was also adamant that each of us play a vital role in the health of our Constitutional Republic.
I find it fitting, and nearly poetic, that his death was announced on Constitution Day. Senator Kyl built his legislative career around the U.S. Constitution and his reverence for it. He was a constructionist through and through, whose conservative lens made him a strong advocate for the separation of powers. I share this passion and am grateful for leaders like Senator Kyl, whose lives have honored the tenants of timeless conservativism.
Senator Kyl’s passing represents the end of a bygone era of politics in which disagreements didn’t mean the end of a discussion, but the beginning. A time when we reached for understanding rather than blame. He was a great man whose decades-long career serves as a reminder that decency, kindness, intelligence, and foresight will always triumph.
My family and I continue to pray for Senator Kyl, his loving family, and all those who cared for him. May his memory and legacy continue to inspire civility and humility in all of us.”
