Jan Dubauskas Responds to Recall Effort Highlighting Her Residents-First, Conservative Record

Scottsdale City Councilwoman Jan Dubauskas issued the following statement in response to a recall effort launched against her by a failed, former Democratic council candidate, Dan Ishac.

“It’s pretty obvious that this is a partisan ploy by a failed Democratic council candidate who was in the pocket of bars and developers and who wants to kick a reliable conservative vote off the Council.

“Scottsdale is an incredible city and from day one, I’ve been a proud residents-first conservative. Residents elected me outright in the July 2024 primary because I ran on a platform of preserving our quality of life, protecting us from crime, and stopping endless overdevelopment; and I’ve kept those promises. The actions of city council members have a direct impact on our day-to-day life, from our morning commute to how we enjoy our weekends to the peace of our neighborhoods.

“I’m proud of my record of effective leadership – from reducing residents’ property taxes, eliminating DEI and reversing Scottsdale’s Green New Deal to investing in road improvements, ending road diets, and investing in Old Town Scottsdale. I’ve voted for responsible growth and against unwanted overdevelopment time and time again. And I’ve become a leader on public safety, investing in police pensions, raising police and fire salaries to the top three in the valley, adding 44 FTEs to our ambulance service, and passing ordinances to protect kids and pedestrians. I was proud to be awarded POSA’s 2025 Champion of Public Safety.

“To continue keeping residents first and protecting what makes Scottsdale unique, I encourage Scottsdale voters to decline to sign any recall petitions and to protect our conservative, residents-first majority on Council by supporting Barry Graham, Bob Littlefield, and Michelle Ugenti-Rita in the upcoming election.”

You may have heard that a recall effort was just launched against me – by none other than a former, failed Democratic council candidate.

It’s pretty obvious that this is a partisan ploy by an ideological opponent who was in the pocket of bars and developers – and who wants to kick a reliable and effective conservative vote off the Council.

Scottsdale is an incredible city! I’m laser focused on making sure Scottsdale voters are informed about my record and what’s at stake – both in this recall effort and in this year’s election where we have three critical seats in contention.

You elected me outright in the July 2024 primary. And from day one, I’ve been a proud residents-first conservative. I ran on a platform of preserving our quality of life, protecting us from crime, and stopping endless overdevelopment, and I’ve kept those promises.

The actions of city council members have a direct impact on our day-to-day life, from our morning commute to how we enjoy our weekends to the peace of our neighborhoods.

Here are some of the votes that have mattered most to you:

Smart Conservative Governance

  • Reduced your property tax rate by 2.1%.
  • Hired City Manager Greg Caton who treats the city like a business and focuses on efficiency and transparency, reducing bloated and redundant management and rapidly resolving resident issues.
  • Returned Scottsdale employees to work at the office ending COVID-era policies and improving the city’s delivery of services to residents.
  • Eliminated DEI.
  • Reversed the Scottsdale Green New Deal.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Improved traffic by passing an ordinance to take down road barriers that unnecessarily block traffic.
  • Canceled the ideological roundabout on Scottsdale Road & Dynamite.
  • Stopped unnecessary road-diets that take away your car lanes.
  • Increased our road improvement budget from $17 to $42 Million. Scottdale deserves better roads!
  • Invested in our charming Old Town Scottsdale by allocating $2 Million for streetscape beautification and $7 Million for pavement improvement to roads and alleys, and improving our marketing.
  • Secured a $100k grant from the state of Arizona for the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park.

Responsible Growth

  • Voted against the 1200 new housing units in the Axon project, a project widely opposed by Scottsdale residents.
  • Successfully appealed and improved designs in the BB Living at Cavasson project to ensure the development met the high standards of the area.

Public Safety

  • Allocated $50M to police pensions.
  • Brought Scottsdale police and fire salaries to the top 3 in the valley (ensuring competitive pay to attract and retain the best police and fire in Scottsdale).
  • Added 44 FTE’s to the new Scottsdale Fire ambulance service.
  • Protected our kids by passing an ordinance against smoking within 50 feet of a city of Scottsdale playground.
  • Protected pedestrians by prohibiting standing on city medians.
  • Awarded 2025 Champion of Public Safety by the Police Officers of Scottsdale Association (POSA).
  • Chair of the Public Safety Committee.
