Scottsdale: Learn about wildfire mitigation efforts tomorrow

By Mayor Lisa Borowsky

Tomorrow: Come make your voice heard at City Hall and hear from Chief Tom Shannon on SFD’s latest wildfire mitigation efforts.  Threat of wildfires is clear and present and now is the time to act!

All Scottsdale residents are invited to attend the City Council meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 9th, at Scottsdale City Hall to voice opinions on protecting our community from a catastrophic wildfire event such as those that have devastated Southern California.

Come show your support for doing all we can to be prepared. Ideas include enhancing volunteer efforts in areas of community outreach and education, monitoring fire prevention compliance at construction sites and clearing dead brush in public areas, including the Preserve. Our residents are our greatest asset and there’s no time like the present to bolster prevention efforts, enlisting the support of a community-driven initiative to assist and support our amazing Scottsdale Fire Department in wildfire mitigation efforts.

Email City Council HERE to let them know you support the effort to bolster wildfire mitigation efforts in North Scottsdale by using all the tools available, including resident involvement!

Mayor Lisa Borowsky supports the idea of empowering residents as volunteers in a proactive and cost-effective way to further protect North Scottsdale and our precious Preserve.

“The objections immediately lodged on this idea, prior to Council having any open discussion or receiving any meaningful information, were puzzling at best. I look forward to a robust and enlightening discussion, led by Chief Shannon, on the ‘art of the possible’ when it comes to enhancing the Department’s already established volunteer program.” Mayor Borowsky said.  Adding “Any worthy cause, such as this, can be accomplished with the right leadership. I have every confidence that Chief Shannon will continue to implement all measures necessary to protect our community, which includes enlisting residents as volunteers in roles that support the Department in meaningful ways to make our community progressively safer.”
