Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner: Working as a Team to Protect and Advance Our Quality of Life

Dear Friends:

It has certainly been an eventful past few months for all of us, as our Town and people around the world have navigated unprecedented challenges. As your Mayor, I have been focused on working with our Town’s staff, the Town Council, and leaders from across the state to ensure Paradise Valley is as prepared as possible and continuing to function at the highest levels during this pandemic.

As such, I made the decision not to engage in a traditional re-election campaign during this time. I am honored to be unopposed for re-election, and I felt it was far more important to plan for the future than to talk about our many accomplishments.

But the past few months have also served as an important reminder of just how important it is to have strong, steady leadership on our Town Council. A good and effective Town Council works as a team, and I am privileged to work alongside a number of colleagues whose service and dedication to the Town stand out.

Two of those individuals are up for re-election. Both earned unanimous support from the Town Council to serve as Vice Mayor, which gave me the privilege of working very closely with each of them, and I would like to ask Paradise Valley residents to support them and provide them with another term to help us navigate the next four years.

Former Vice Mayor and current Town Councilmember Scott Moore has served the Town for more than a decade in a number of roles, most recently serving as Vice Mayor from 2018-2019 and currently serving as a Town Councilman. Scott has been a leading voice on critical issues such as ensuring responsible building and opposing over-development, promoting public safety, focusing on fiscal responsibility, ensuring that adequate training and procedures are in place for all Town volunteers, and many others. He is a thoughtful and diligent public servant with unique expertise that the Town consistently benefits from, and I am proud to offer him my support.

Current Vice Mayor Julie Pace has been an energetic and enthusiastic voice on the Town Council over the past several years, and has played a driving role in such matters as improving our hillside ordinances, working to support our police department and first responders, ensuring our Town has a responsible budget moving forward, sharing her knowledge and experience as a business lawyer, and in many other key areas. She is a tireless worker on behalf of our Town.

Both Julie and Scott have played an integral role the past few months in helping shape our public policies and navigate these uncertain times. They have been important members of a team of people who are working to ensure our quality of life. I am pleased to support their candidacies and look forward to working with them in the coming years.

All those running for public office here in Paradise Valley are doing so as volunteers — there are no paid positions on our council or Town boards. I would like to thank all those who seek to serve our Town and improve our community’s exceptional quality of life.

If you have any questions, comments or ideas for our Town government, please feel free to contact me directly at jerry@jerryformayor.com. I hope you and yours stay healthy and safe. Together, we will overcome the challenges we face and emerge as an even stronger community.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner
