Preposterous Partisan Power Play Challenged By Arizona Independent Candidate For Governor

Legal Action May Be Taken If Governor Hobbs Signs SB1609 AKA “The Partisan Politics Protection Act”

By Hugh Lytle for Governor

(PHOENIX) Independent Candidate for Governor Hugh Lytle is challenging the most outrageous partisan ploy in state history.

SB 1609 seeks to prevent the Arizona Independent Party from calling itself the Arizona Independent Party. The bill has an emergency clause which would make it retroactive creating chaos as Independent Party candidates are already campaigning under their hard-fought banner.

Lytle said, “Considering issues challenging Arizona such as housing affordability, public schools in crisis, sluggish job growth, ICE raids, significant reductions to Arizona’s water supply, this really an emergency?

Arizona Independent Party Chairman Paul Johnson said, “This bill is a gift because it proves our point that the two-party system is more interested in protecting their monopoly than problem solving.”

Lytle has invited the other two major candidates for Arizona Governor, Democrat Katie Hobbs and Republican Andy Biggs to oppose this legislation. So far, they have yet to oppose it.

Hugh Lytle and Paul Johnson are calling on Republican lawmakers to publicly denounce the bill and say they are prepared to pursue legal action against Governor Katie Hobbs if she signs the legislation into law.

Arizona’s Secretary of State already gave the Arizona Independent Party permission to change its name from the No Labels Party. Not satisfied with this decision from an elected leader in charge of Arizona elections, both parties have gone to court. And now partisan politicians have gone to the state legislature trying to change the rules after the fact. What are they afraid of?

Lytle added, “Politicians are not bad people. Most are well-meaning individuals caught up in a bad system. The Arizona Independent Party provides an escape from that system, freedom of choice, and a way for all Arizonans to work together.”

Lytle’s policy platform, the “Great 8 for State 48,” includes down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, affordable AI-focused higher education, healthcare cost reduction, championing entrepreneurs, expanded charitable tax incentives, and pragmatic public-school reform.
