Exemplary

Unlike some of its union counterparts, the Scottsdale Fire Fighters Association leads with quiet dignity.

It was the first contributor to the successful campaign in November to update and enhance the city’s infrastructure.

It annually hosts an impressive charity dinner each September that raises money for important causes and inspires attendees with amazing speakers.

Its members are obviously on the front lines helping the community deal with a startling pandemic.

When City Manager Jim Thompson asked the group to freeze wages due to a rapidly deteriorating economy and sales tax projection — despite the bravery and import of firefighters — the organization was among the first to say it would be team players.

And just yesterday, the noble group showed once again how they just don’t get it. They live it.  By showcasing struggling local restaurants near fire stations on the organization’s social media, encouraging its members to eat there as well as the public at large.

Scottsdale has many numerous, great corporate citizens.  But by its recent actions the Scottsdale Fire Fighters Association is showing that it may be a first among equals.
