Reminders Why The Desert Discovery Center Is An Over The Edge Loser

As noble opponents of the ill-conceived and politically toxic Desert Discovery Center/Desert Edge continue their impressive volunteerism to force a public vote on the project we thought it would be helpful to remind readers why their efforts are justified. We have not been shy about our opposition to this wholly unnecessary white elephant over the years and wanted to summarize in one place our numerous musings as opponents march towards an upcoming deadline for signatures.

Thank you for your support. WE WILL GET OUR SIGNATURES, and when we do the DDC is as good as dead. There is no way voters will approve a $68 million pet project when Council plans to ask for $350 million in new bonds. A responsive Council interested in moving forward and leading would just end the project. Instead, we will get a Charter amendment which will tie the hands of all future Councils. We’re in it to win it and are going to keep the throttle down til the end.
