New campaign fundraising numbers in Scottsdale show advantages for Virginia Korte and Suzanne Klapp in the mayoral race and some financial strength for City Council candidates Tammy Caputi, John Little and Bill Crawford.
Candidates have filed first quarter 2020 campaign finance reports with the city of Scottsdale.
In the race for mayor, Korte raised $95,071 in the first quarter including from some prominent business and community leaders. That has evened the financial playing field with Suzanne Klapp as the two City Council members look to succeed a term-limited Mayor Jim Lane.
Klapp has $132,126 cash on hand for her campaign while Korte has $103,102, according to their finance reports. Klapp had a more impressive fundraising effort in the fourth quarter of 2019.
That gives Klapp and Korte financial advantages in the August primary over slow growth mayoral candidates Bob Littlefield and David Ortega. Former City Councilwoman Lisa Borowsky is also on the mayoral ballot but did not report any fundraising or spending in her filing.
In the race for three Scottsdale City Council seats, Tammy Caputi raised the most money during the first quarter and has the most money on hand. Caputi also counts some prominent community leaders among her contributors.
John Little and Bill Crawford join Caputi with the most cash on hand headed toward the August 4th primary election. They also have some notable community supporters.
Two of the council seats are open with Korte and Klapp running for mayor. Guy Phillips holds the other seat and is seeking reelection. Phillips is the middle of the pack in terms of fundraising in a council race that also includes community advocates Betty Janik and Becca Linnig.
