DEMOCRAT CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST REV. JARRETT MAUPIN ENDORSES REPUBLICAN SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN

SAYS BLACK VOTERS BEING WOOED, BLACK VOTES IN PLAY FOR NOVEMBER
Rev. Maupin’s Statement Below:
“As an advocate for Civil Rights, I have an obligation to endorse a candidate for the U.S. Senate that will bring much needed jobs, affordable housing, and infrastructure dollars to Phoenix and other urban areas in Arizona. In this year’s November election, that candidate will be John McCain,
“I am endorsing John now, before the general election, because there is urgent work to be done, in the now, to reach out and secure the votes of Black Arizonans and others before November’s contest,
“This endorsement is not about Republican vs Democrat, Right vs Left, or Old vs New. This endorsement is about Right vs Wrong. McCain is right for Arizona and his opponents – in his party primary and in the general election – have proven that. How? By taking Black voters for granted and refusing to articulate in a meaningful way how they intend to address poverty, housing, education, employment, and criminal justice issues that disproportionately impact Black Americans. McCain, on the other hand, is actively engaging Black leaders to find policy solutions and creative ways to bridge the racial divide and level America’s uneven economic and social playing fields,
“John McCain is the best choice for Black voters and for Arizonans in general. McCain’s time tested and unfailing protection of our state’s valuable military interests, mining industry, tech hubs, and various enterprises speaks for itself. His seniority and ability to craft passable legislation supersedes any partisan affiliations and uniquely empowers his constituency to occasionally extract from Congress that rare and longed for thing, substantive change,
“Over the years, McCain has managed to change his few stumbles into fine strides. He has, from time to time, fallen short of the mark on issues of race and justice but he has never entrenched himself in blind bigotry nor has he carried on in vain when history has proven him wrong. Because of this, his ability to change or make a change for the better, he has earned the trust of Black voters.
“Please join me and others who follow in the tradition of civic leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Fannie Lou Hammer, Lincoln Ragsdale, Opal Ellis and their movement for equality and fairness by voting for and working to re-elect John McCain to the United States Senate.”
